Consular work consists of protecting and promoting the interests of Dutch nationals abroad, whether they are residents, tourists or people visiting on business.

Activities include issuing passports, drawing up legal documents, issuing declarations, authenticating documents, visiting Dutch nationals in prison and ensuring that their rights are respected, giving assistance in case of accident, hospitalisation or death, and providing advice on procedures to be followed, and liaising with local authorities in the search for missing persons.
